Nexus has procured a new train fleet for the Metro from the Swiss train builder, Stadler. This partnership guarantees the design, construction, and maintenance of these new trains that will serve the region for decades to come. A total of 46 new Metro trains have been ordered, with the first ones expected to enter passenger services in 2023.

As the Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Executive, Nexus administers funds on behalf of the Joint Transport Committee of the North East Combined Authority and the North of Tyne Combined Authority. Their overarching mission is to enhance the quality of life and prosperity of everyone in Tyne and Wear through the creation of better transport networks
