A public-private sector delegation from Newcastle and Gateshead are preparing to sell the city as a leading destination for investment at one of the world’s leading real estate conferences.
Invest Newcastle, a public and private partnership delivered by NewcastleGateshead Initiative is convening a delegation to showcase the strengths of the city at MIPIM in Cannes this March.
Invest Newcastle has led a delegation to MIPIM since 2015 and will be joined in by Newcastle City Council, Gateshead Council as well as Eldon Square, NCG, Ryder Architecture, Avison Young, FaulknerBrowns, Rolton, Aptus, CGI, igloo, Naylors Gavin Black, NE1, North East Combined Authority, Todd Milburn and Ward Hadaway.
The MIPIM 2026 delegation will focus on showcasing a portfolio of major projects and investment opportunities that highlight the city’s strengths as well as its track record of transformative schemes.
In addition to promoting investment-ready opportunities, the delegation will also champion the city’s well-earned reputation for collaboration, which has been a critical factor in driving investment.
Invest Newcastle will host a programme of panel discussions, presentations, and networking events on their pavilion at MIPIM, providing a unique platform to connect with global investors and decision-makers from across the real estate supply chain.
This three-day programme of events will highlight Newcastle and Gateshead’s growing strengths in the creative and cultural sectors as well as the exciting developments that are reshaping the skyline at Forth Yards, Pilgrim Street and Gateshead’s Old Town Hall.
Last summer UK Government announced that over 500,000 new homes would be built through Homes England’s new £16 billion National Housing Bank. £120 million of which has been earmarked for the Forth Yards site in Newcastle and will be a key focus at the conference in March.
Plans for MIPIM 2026 were unveiled at an event at SIX, featuring talks from key city leaders on their economic ambitions alongside the private sector, including Pam Smith, Chief Executive of Newcastle City Council.
She said: “MIPIM presents a unique opportunity for Newcastle to position itself as a city with global scale development opportunities. Hot off the heels of hosting both MOBO Awards and the first-ever Mercury Prize outside London this year and soon to be welcoming the Euros in 2028, our city continues to position itself as a destination for culture, innovation, and investment.
“We are a city that delivers for our residents. We are the future of urban, innovation, culture and investment.
“We are Newcastle, one city, united together and we look forward to working with you in the public and private sector to make it our best one yet.”
Cllr Martin Gannon, Leader of Gateshead Council, added:
“We’re pleased to see Gateshead represented at MIPIM this year as key decision makers, partners and thought leaders come together around a shared vision for the borough and the wider region.”
“MIPIM remains a powerful global platform to showcase Gateshead’s potential. With deliverable regeneration plans bringing exciting sites to the market, it provides a valuable opportunity for investors and developers to explore future opportunities with us.”
“Gateshead is at a moment of real transformation, and this is a chance to highlight the ambition that’s reimagining our town as a vibrant destination for both residents and visitors.”
Jonathan Seebacher, Principal – Newcastle, Ryder Architecture, said:
“Ryder is proud to be part of the Invest Newcastle delegation once again. The opportunity to showcase our region on a global stage is unmatched and we’re excited to see several Ryder projects profiled across the week, including the regeneration of Pilgrim Street which has seen a number of significant milestones reached in the past 12 months. MIPIM is invaluable, not only to demonstrate the ongoing transformation of our towns and cities in real time, but to share the pipeline of future schemes that are driven by the long term ambition of the people embedded within them.”
Dr Sarah Green, Chief Executive, NGI, said:
“It is incredibly important, in the competitive global market, to ensure our city’s voice is heard and working together with the public and private sector, we can do this with a collective voice and a collective story. MIPIM is one of the world’s largest real estate conferences attracting 80 of the world’s top 100 real estate investors attend each year providing Newcastle and Gateshead with the opportunity to connect with decision makers on our key priorities and on a truly unique platform. We are thrilled to be bringing Newcastle and Gateshead’s vision to life and welcome global investors and developers onto our stand to find out what we are all about.”
