Leading North East life science organisations and Inward Investment agency Invest Newcastle are set to host an international showcase in Boston, providing local life science organisations an insight into why the region is fast-becoming a UK hotspot for clinical trials.

Coinciding with the DIT Boston Mission which is one of a number of successful trade mission trips to the US over the last three years; the event takes place on November 30th 2017 at The Boston Marriott Cambridge, Massachusetts.  The showcase will include talks from Invest Newcastle, the Inward Investment agency for Newcastle-Upon-Tyne who will represent the regions life science sector; along with other regional organisations who will be showcasing their innovative services.

The event will provide an opportunity for local businesses interested in UK investment to hear more about Newcastle-Upon-Tyne’s credentials. Organisations talking at the event include Datatrial, an international technology focused business with offices in Massachusetts and whose business involves enabling end-to-end access to clinical data; ReproCELL, a pre-clinical contract research organisation and unique pre-clinical service provider Alcyomics who are based at Newcastle University.

Matt Bratton, Senior Inward Investment Executive at Invest Newcastle said: “There has never been a better time to shout about our credentials in life sciences. The region is thriving and outward looking; it has the highest capital value of medical and pharmaceutical exports in the UK. We welcome the US audience to hear more about the specialist services in our area and to build trade and investment links with North East England.

He added: “It’s great to see Newcastle-Upon-Tyne progressing in the clinical trial area. The city has been named the top performing Trust for the number of clinical research studies and patients recruited for the sixth year running. This joint event between Invest Newcastle, Alcyomics, Datatrial and ReproCELL evidences the collaborative attitude of businesses in Newcastle, particularly in the life sciences sector, and our ability to attract international attention for the unique skills and services we have in the region.”

With a larger concentration of life science companies than London, the North East has a growing commercial base underpinned by a broad range of expertise in pre-clinical non-animal testing, biotechnology and novel therapeutics. US delegates will get to hear from a handful of the 200 life sciences businesses that are based in the North East.

CEO of Alcyomics Anne Dickinson who is also a Professor of Marrow Transplant Biology at Newcastle University – a world top 100 university for life sciences and a Centre of Excellence for pre-clinical contract research said: “The North East of England and Boston have both developed a supportive infrastructure for the growing Biotechnology industries in our respective regions and we are delighted to be part of this interactive community and build our business predicting adverse reactions to novel therapies.

“Alcyomics is excited to be visiting Boston through the DIT Mission. It is a great opportunity to interact with and further our knowledge of the Boston Biotech community and understand the opportunities available to us.”

Emma Banks, CEO of Datatrial said: “Our latest software, Nucleus, which was recently launched in Europe and the US; will seamlessly transform the process of linking documents to complete data results in the highly-regulated environment of clinical trials. Our software provides clinical research clients with a compliant and fully validated solution for their data and most importantly helps them bring new clinical products to patients quickly, efficiently and on budget.

“It’s an exciting time for Datatrial as we are looking to build our footprint and develop our markets with 3 new product launches this year. This will be transformational for our business given our existing and respected software platform ‘now EDC’ has been established for nearly 12 years.”
