A brand new concept for serviced office space has launched in Newcastle Upon Tyne. HiveTree is a bold, exciting and completely revolutionary community-focussed concept. It’s already been awarded the accolade of ‘office space provider of the year.’
Set in the historical Central Buildings on Bigg Market in the city centre, HiveTree has transformed the once dilapidated building into a state-of-the-art business hub.
Phase 1 of the new development was completed in July this year, and quickly achieved full occupancy. With tenants ranging from a branding and digital marketing agency, to a global fintech, HiveTree has attracted attention from the most up and coming businesses in the region.
Phase 2 of the development is well underway, with completion set for September 2020. The expansion will see even more exciting office spaces created for new tenants.
Created with community in mind
The philosophy behind HiveTree is all about sparking creativity, building a community, and creating jobs. Building a new business hub from the ground up has allowed the team to focus on the important fundamentals that will help encourage growth, build networks and promote success for its tenants. By joining together like minded people, ambitious entrepreneurs and expanding companies, HiveTree is leading the way for business growth Newcastle.
Current HiveTree tenants include fin tech brand Pockit, beauty brand Dollicious, design company Edge Agency, as well Marginal Gains who provide business concierge services, and Loosedays, a leading events brand.
Design and Build
The bold vision of Brian Austin and his team at Edge Agency for HiveTree was approved by the building’s private owners in 2019, and work got underway to completely transform the formerly derelict space.
Edge Agency has designed every aspect of the build, from the floorplans to the signage, and everything in between. Using their extensive experience, they have created a unique and exciting office complex.
Brian tells us: “We wanted to build something that no-one has ever seen before in Newcastle, so it was our mission to design each space as creatively as we could. Every room has its own individual character and theme. We used mixed materials like stone and copper, and experimented with colours and lighting to bring a new dynamic into the usually dull world of office space. Our stylish and quirky-cool offices are infused with the latest smart technology, making them both unique and practical for modern businesses.”
Powered by smart technology
The most futuristic aspect of the project is the smart technology system integration. Controlled from a centralised secured app, each member can remotely turn their heating up, adjust the mood lighting, book meetings rooms, unlock doors, and much more. This level of autonomy puts control back in the tenants hands, and allows much more freedom and flexibility.
Further Bigg Market development
Phase 2 of the project will see some exciting new developments, which will completely transform the Bigg Market. New conference and retail space will be built around an impressive new courtyard to the rear of the building. The modern, chic space will be encased by glass and steel and serve as a lively new spot.
Inside the complex there’s plans to expand the office space and increase occupancy potential, giving more freelancers, small companies and startups the opportunity to set their roots firmly in Newcastle.
With 22,000 sq ft of new development planned for the Bigg Market, and a budget in excess of £2M, the next phase in the HiveTree project will completely convert the once dilapidated buildings. This will attract some exciting brands and businesses into the area.
Award winning
The HiveTree development has been awarded the accolade of ‘office space provider of the year.’ This is a fantastic achievement, and marks a shift in what was a stagnant sector in Newcastle, bringing it in line with the likes of London and Manchester.
