We have gathered the region’s key players to discuss our plans for MIPIM 2020, the world’s largest international property conference.

Our plans were revealed at a breakfast event at The Catalyst building on Newcastle Helix. Representatives from Newcastle City Council, Gateshead Council, Durham County Council, Avison Young, Arup, Newcastle Helix, Ryder Architecture, Mott Macdonald, GT3 Architects and Morton Group all attended as part of our delegation that is heading out to Cannes in March.

We used this opportunity to announce that Dame Jackie Daniel, Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s CEO, Professor Chris Day, Vice-Chancellor and President from Newcastle University and Nicola Palmarini, Director, UK’S National Innovation Centre for Ageing will be joining the delegation to help us promote the city’s expertise and credentials to an international audience.

Dame Jackie Daniel will be representing our region as CEO of one of the first NHS Trust’s in the country to declare a climate change emergency, committing to working with civic partners to become carbon neutral by 2040.  At MIPIM she will act as an ambassador for the NHS, with a focus on health, wealth and wellbeing.  To support a healthy population, you need investment and innovation within in the built environment and MIPIM will provide an opportunity to identify and leverage new opportunities.

Professor Chris Day will represent Newcastle University – a significant asset for the region.  With a global reputation for academic excellence they play a leading role in the economic, social and cultural development of the north east of England.  They are part of the unique partnership that makes Newcastle Helix, with their research helping to tackle societal issues and challenges that cities across the world face.

With co-investment from Government, Newcastle University launched the UK’s National Innovation Centre for Ageing. Newly appointed director Nicola Palmarini will also be joining the delegation to talk about how our city is pioneering the longevity economy and how big data and innovation is not only helping our city create a place where people can live well for longer, but opening up opportunities for businesses in a market that is worth trillions. His internationally recognised career will play a vital role raising Newcastle’s profile.

All three representatives will support the delegation to have a stronger international voice and demonstrate the power of multi-agency collaboration on a city and its people.

Nicola Palmarini, Director, NICA said: “I am delighted to be part of team Newcastle and play my part in telling the property world our story.  Here in Newcastle people from across all sectors are collaborating to help enterprise to flourish and to support people to live better. MIPIM is our opportunity to showcase Newcastle as a perfect place to grow the longevity economy, enabling us to make new connections and leverage investment. The city’s vision and multi-faceted approach has helped us to create a unique narrative and business approach we’ve defined “Ageing Intelligence™ ” which brings the ability to personalise user experiences and harness the power of data to generate insights into customer needs and wants, taking advantage of new opportunities generating new revenue streams that really sets Newcastle apart from other cities.”

MIPIM takes place over 4-days and gathers some of the most influential players from all sectors of the international property industry.

The Newcastle stand will provide a platform for partners to engage with investors and deliver an events programme that showcases the region’s strengths and expertise around wellness and sustainability. Hot topics include smart tech, placemaking, climate change, health and wellbeing.

MIPIM will also be used to launch the UK’s very first Campus for Ageing and Vitality, a multi-million-pound development built on a former hospital site and Metro Green – an ambitious project by Gateshead Council that will see the transformation of the brownfield land surrounding intu Metrocentre into a thriving sustainable new urban community.
